A great activity for kids and families at this festival is the sandcastle-building competition. On August 2 from 11:30-3pm at East Beach, participants will face off in an artistic showdown to create the most majestic sand castle. Sandcastle competitions never fail to demonstrate just how creatively talented some young people are. Participants are advised to arrive no later than 10:30 am for orientation. Remember to bring your cameras – these creations will sadly be swept away by the afternoon tide.
A perennial highlight of this festival is the torchlight parade, a tradition that began in 1987. This year, the official float will be “under the sea” themed. The parade will be held on Sunday August 3 beginning at 9pm. The route begins at Marine Drive and Oxford Street and moves east to Stayte Road. Participation in the parade is welcomed! And what would a summer festival be without great outdoor music? This year’s festival is being headlined by local hard rock legends Trooper. You’ll also want to catch great performances by the Star Captains, The Sumner Brothers, and Jason Buie. True to the community spirit of the festival, several local arts organizations and high school bands will also be performing on the main stage.
